Omaheke Hosts Consultations on Draft Teaching Profession Bill

Omaheke Hosts Consultations on Draft Teaching Profession Bill. The nationwide consultations on the Draft Teaching Profession Bill and its Regulations reached the Omaheke Region today, marking another step in shaping legislation that aims to elevate and professionalise the teaching profession in Namibia.

Opening the session in Gobabis, Acting Chief Regional Officer Mr. Karukirue Tjijenda welcomed participants and underlined the importance of the process. He emphasised that the Bill represents a significant milestone for the country’s education sector, placing teachers at the centre of reforms designed to improve quality and accountability.

Mr. Tjijenda noted that the consultation platform allows educators, stakeholders, and community members to share insights and raise issues that will help ensure the final legislation reflects the realities on the ground. “This process is about strengthening both the teaching profession and the outcomes for learners,” he said.

The Mayor of Gobabis, Her Worship Ms. Milba Tjozongoro, also attended the gathering, underscoring the value of inclusive participation in building the future of education. Her presence reflected the collaborative spirit of the consultations, which seek to bring together voices from all sectors of society.

Participants were encouraged to contribute openly and constructively, with discussions centred on how the Bill can empower teachers, enhance learner performance, and reinforce the education system for generations to come.

The Draft Teaching Profession Bill and its accompanying regulations are being discussed across Namibia as part of a national effort to gather input before the legislation is finalised. By engaging teachers, communities, and education stakeholders directly, the Ministry of Education aims to ensure that the framework adopted will meet both national priorities and the expectations of those it directly affects.
