Old Mutual Foundation Expands Classroom Furniture Drive to Eight More Namibian Schools

Old Mutual Foundation Expands Classroom Furniture Drive to Eight More Namibian Schools. The Old Mutual Foundation has announced the next phase of its Chair and Desk Initiative, confirming eight schools across four regions as beneficiaries for the 2025 rollout. This follows an open application process aimed at supporting schools facing a critical shortage of classroom furniture.

The selected schools — located in Kavango East, Kavango West, Hardap, and Khomas regions — will receive either newly manufactured or repaired chairs and desks to improve learning environments.

In the Kavango East Region, Dr. Joseph Diescho Primary School will receive 100 new desks and chairs, while Ngcangcana Senior Primary will benefit from the repair of 100 units. The Kavango West Region will see Hausiku Wakina Primary School receive 100 new sets, and Mururani Combined School have 100 refurbished.

The Hardap Region’s Klein-Aub Resource School is set to receive 100 new units, while Edward Frederick Primary School will see 100 repaired. In the Khomas Region, Tobias Hainyeko Primary School and Hillside Primary School will receive new and repaired furniture respectively, each benefitting 100 learners.

Launched in 2023, the Chair and Desk Initiative is part of the foundation’s broader commitment to supporting inclusive and quality education. By collaborating with the Ministry of Education, the initiative targets real, measurable improvements in school infrastructure.

“Every learner deserves a seat at the table of opportunity,” said Mignon du Preez, Group Marketing, Public Affairs and Sustainability Executive. “This programme is not just about furniture. It’s about restoring dignity and enabling focus in the classroom.”

The Old Mutual Foundation reaffirmed its dedication to sustainable, high-impact educational interventions that empower learners and strengthen schools nationwide.
