NUST Secures Salary Boost for Administrative and Academic Staff. The Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) has successfully concluded salary negotiations with the Namibia Public Workers Union (NAPWU) and the Teachers Union of Namibia (TUN), marking a positive outcome for both administrative and academic staff.
The agreement, which applies to all eligible employees within the bargaining unit, provides salary adjustments for the 2024/2025 financial year. According to a statement issued by NUST on Tuesday, administrative staff in job Grades 7 to 11 will receive a 5% increase, while those in Grades 12 to 16 will receive a 6% adjustment.
Permanent and full-time academic staff with contracts of one year or longer will also benefit from a 5% salary increase. These adjustments will be backdated to 1 January 2025 and reflected in the December 2025 payroll.
In a further development, the university confirmed that its 80% medical aid contribution will now extend to all employees on Total Cost to Company packages, including those on full-time contracts lasting at least one year.
NUST Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Andrew Niikondo praised the negotiating teams for their dedication and professionalism throughout the process. “This agreement demonstrates the strength of collaboration and the importance of maintaining mutual respect between management and staff representatives,” he said.
The conclusion of these negotiations signals stability and ongoing dialogue between the university and employee unions as NUST continues to strengthen its institutional capacity and staff welfare.
