Namibian President Optimistic About Economic Growth Ahead of Leadership Change. As Namibia prepares for a transition in leadership, President Nangolo Mbumba has expressed confidence in the country’s economic future. He highlighted mining, oil and gas, critical raw materials, and green hydrogen as key industries driving growth.
Speaking at the first Cabinet meeting of 2025, Mbumba noted that the economy has returned to pre-pandemic levels, with tourism expected to play a significant role in job creation this year.
The president urged Cabinet ministers to ensure that government policies lead to tangible economic benefits, rather than just being reflected in statistics. He stressed the importance of job creation and poverty reduction, emphasizing that policies should improve the lives of ordinary Namibians.
With his term coming to an end, he called on government officials to finalize key projects before the new administration takes over on March 21, 2025. He also emphasized the need for transparency, accountability, and effective governance in the final stretch of his leadership.
This Cabinet meeting took place as Namibia prepares to swear in its first female president, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah. Following the 2024 presidential and National Assembly elections, the ruling SWAPO Party secured another term in power, setting the stage for a historic transition.
As the country moves forward, the government aims to maintain economic stability while ensuring a smooth handover to the next administration.
