Namibian Invitational Team Heads to South Africa for Witz Barbarians Sevens Tournament. A Namibian invitational rugby team has departed from Windhoek by road to compete in the Witz Barbarians Sevens tournament, set to take place this Saturday in Ceres in South Africa’s Western Cape.
The touring side will be led by Trustco United loose forward Thehard Lintvelt, who has been named captain of the Namibian invitational squad. Lintvelt is expected to guide the team during the fast-paced sevens competition, which attracts clubs and invitational teams from the region.
The Namibian team’s participation follows the Witz Barbarians’ appearance in Windhoek last October, where the South African side won the Ongos Valley Sevens. That tournament brought together several teams and provided competitive exposure for players from both countries.
The upcoming event in Ceres will see the Namibian invitational side face off against the Witz Barbarians and other competing teams in a condensed sevens format. Sevens rugby is known for its speed and intensity, with matches played over shorter durations and requiring high levels of fitness and tactical awareness.
The journey to the Western Cape marks another cross-border rugby engagement for Namibian players, offering them the opportunity to compete outside the country. Such tournaments are commonly used by invitational teams to test combinations and provide match experience in varied competitive environments.
The Witz Barbarians Sevens tournament is scheduled for Saturday, with matches taking place in Ceres. The competition forms part of the region’s rugby calendar and regularly features teams from different parts of southern Africa.
