Namibia Launches Unified Coach Training to Advance Inclusive Sports Development. The Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture (MEIYSAC), Hon. Dino Ballotti, has officially launched the Special Olympics Unified Coach Training Program, marking a major milestone in Namibia’s inclusive sports development efforts.
The program, launched in partnership with Special Olympics Namibia, the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), the German Federal Foreign Office, and Lions International, is part of a six-week national initiative to expand and strengthen inclusive sports capacity across the country.
This collaboration builds upon the legacy of the 2023 Special Olympics World Summer Games held in Berlin, where the German sports community committed to advancing international cooperation and inclusion through sports.
Speaking at the launch, Hon. Ballotti emphasized that the program goes beyond technical training in volleyball and basketball. It serves as a platform to empower coaches to become “envoys of unity and social transformation,” aligning with the Ministry’s broader vision of empowerment and social inclusion.
“Through this initiative, our coaches will not only master techniques but also inspire communities to embrace inclusivity through sport,” he said.
Earlier this year, Hon. Ballotti embarked on regional engagements to meet coaches across Namibia, reinforcing the Ministry’s dedication to talent development and inclusive participation at grassroots levels.
He noted that empowering coaches plays a transformative role in shaping future generations:“When we empower a coach, we empower a generation that learns to see ability instead of disability, and teamwork instead of difference,” he stated.
