Namibia Hosts ADPA Road Show on Sustainable Diamond Standard

Namibia Hosts ADPA Road Show on Sustainable Diamond Standard. The Diamond Board of Namibia has joined the African Diamond Producers Association’s (ADPA) Sustainable Diamond Standard (SDS) Road Show, as the initiative made its stop in Namibia this week. The engagement forms part of ADPA’s broader mission to advance responsible sourcing and governance in Africa’s diamond industry.

As part of the visit, ADPA convened a consultative workshop with Namibia’s key diamond stakeholders. The session was designed to harmonize approaches across the continent while providing an in-depth look at the SDS framework. Presentations outlined the standard’s purpose, scope, and structure, alongside the different levels of participation available for stakeholders in the diamond value chain.

The SDS is anchored on two core mechanisms: the Implementation Cycle and the ABC (Assessment-Based Certification) framework. These tools are intended to promote greater transparency, ensure ethical business practices, and foster sustainable development within diamond-producing countries.

For Namibia, a nation whose economy is closely tied to its diamond resources, the workshop offered an opportunity to align with continental efforts that emphasize credibility and long-term sustainability. The Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy (MIME) has underscored the importance of such frameworks in strengthening Namibia’s competitive advantage in global markets, while simultaneously assuring international buyers of the integrity of its diamond sector.

Industry leaders welcomed the dialogue as a timely step towards securing Africa’s leadership role in setting standards for the global diamond industry. By prioritizing sustainable governance, the SDS not only protects the interests of producers but also enhances trust and confidence among trading partners worldwide.

The Diamond Board of Namibia’s participation reaffirms the country’s commitment to upholding high standards of accountability and sustainability in one of its most critical industries.
