Namibia Congratulates Zambia on 61 Years of Independence, Honours Historic Bonds of Solidarity. Namibian President Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has extended warm congratulations to the Government and people of Zambia on the country’s 61st Independence Anniversary, commending the nation’s legacy of courage, peace, and continental solidarity.
In her official message, President Nandi-Ndaitwah reflected on Zambia’s pivotal role in Africa’s liberation history, noting that “61 years ago, the courageous people of the Republic of Zambia rose with one voice to reclaim their destiny — breaking the chains of colonial rule and ushering in an era of freedom, dignity, and self-determination.”
She lauded Zambia’s sustained record of peace and development, acknowledging the sacrifices of its “gallant sons and daughters” whose struggles inspired independence movements across the continent. The President emphasized that Namibia’s path to freedom remains deeply intertwined with Zambia’s support.
“For Namibia, Zambia is not merely a neighbour — it is family,” she said. “During our darkest hours, the Zambian people opened their homes and hearts to us, offering sanctuary and solidarity when it was most needed. Namibia’s story of freedom cannot be told without acknowledging Zambia’s generosity and unwavering support.”
President Nandi-Ndaitwah further extended her congratulations to Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema and reaffirmed Namibia’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation.
“As we celebrate this day,” she said, “let us continue to safeguard our hard-won freedoms, deepen unity, and strengthen the bonds of friendship between our two nations.”
