Namibia Concludes Vice Presidency Role at IRENA Assembly in Abu Dhabi. Namibia has concluded its role as Vice President of the 15th Session of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Assembly during the 16th IRENA Assembly currently taking place in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Minister of Mines and Energy, Hon. Modestus Amutse, is attending the Assembly, which ends today. Namibia served as Vice President on behalf of the Africa Group during the previous Assembly session, a role that forms part of IRENA’s leadership structure. The agency’s leadership includes a President and four Vice Presidents, each representing different regional groups to ensure balanced regional representation in guiding global renewable energy efforts.
During the proceedings of the 16th Assembly, Minister Amutse delivered a general member statement on behalf of Namibia. In his address, he reiterated the country’s commitment to renewable energy development and highlighted pathways that support industrialisation, the creation of sustainable jobs, and expanded access to energy.
The IRENA Assembly serves as the agency’s highest decision-making body, bringing together member states to discuss global renewable energy priorities, cooperation frameworks, and progress in advancing energy transitions. Member statements form part of the Assembly’s formal engagements and allow countries to outline national positions and priorities related to renewable energy development.
IRENA is a global platform dedicated to promoting the widespread adoption and sustainable use of renewable energy. Through its Assembly and leadership structures, the agency facilitates dialogue and cooperation among its members on issues related to clean energy deployment, policy frameworks, and technological advancement.
Namibia’s participation in the Assembly and its completion of the Vice Presidency role mark the end of its formal leadership representation for the Africa Group in the 15th Session. The Assembly continues to serve as a platform for member states to exchange perspectives and reaffirm commitments to renewable energy as part of broader economic and development objectives.
The 16th IRENA Assembly concludes today in Abu Dhabi.
