Miss Universe Namibia 2025 Unveils National Costume Honouring the Country’s Cultural Heritage. Namibia’s cultural richness and natural splendour took centre stage as Miss Universe Namibia 2025, Johanna Swartbooi, revealed her national costume ahead of this year’s international pageant. The design pays tribute to the nation’s diverse communities and landscapes, weaving together symbolic elements that reflect unity, identity and pride.
The costume’s central inspiration is the Quiver Tree, one of Namibia’s most recognisable natural icons. Its influence is reflected in both the crown and the cape, with the headpiece featuring a beaded band and a diamond centrepiece to represent the country’s enduring spirit. The cape itself is printed with an image of a Quiver Tree silhouetted against a sunset, highlighting the striking beauty of Namibia’s environment.
Around Swartbooi’s neck, a beaded necklace crafted from ostrich shell and traditional beads brings together vibrant colours including yellow, orange, blue, green, red and brown. Each shade represents harmony across Namibia’s many cultures. The corset incorporates detailed Khoisan beadwork and flowing coils, with a skin toned base that honours Swartbooi’s Khoisan roots.
The skirt draws inspiration from both the Caprivian traditional skirt and the patchwork style of the Nama dress. Its colours echo Namibia’s skies, oceans and sunsets, creating a visual connection to the nation’s landscapes. An Ondjeva made from ostrich shells symbolises purity and the hardworking spirit of Namibian women. The waist belt, front beaded piece and leather detailing are handcrafted by Khoisan women, reflecting identity, craftsmanship and cultural continuity. The leather component also acknowledges traditions linked to the Himba and San communities.
Completing the ensemble, the anklets take their cues from Ovahimba and Ovambo customs, representing health and well being.
By wearing this design on the Miss Universe stage, Swartbooi carries with her a visual celebration of Namibia’s unity and diversity. The costume encapsulates the story of a nation that is resilient, culturally rich and deeply connected to its heritage.
