MHSS Awards Scholarships to 52 Students Under New Health Training Initiative. The Ministry of Health and Social Services (MHSS) has awarded scholarships to 52 undergraduate students as part of its latest training programme aimed at strengthening Namibia’s health workforce. The initiative, launched under Project 2025, builds on the foundation of Project 2013 and forms a key pillar of the Ministry’s long-term health sector strategy.
Project 2025 will run for three years and aims to produce 450 graduates in critically needed healthcare fields. These include dental therapy, optometry, medical engineering, audiology, speech and language therapy, clinical technology, medical physics, and dietetics, among others.
Speaking during the award ceremony, Minister of Health and Social Services, Hon. Dr. Luvindao, congratulated the recipients and urged them to view the scholarship not just as financial support but as a national investment. “Great opportunities come with greater responsibilities,” she stated. “This scholarship is not just for you, it is for every citizen whose life your service will impact in the future.”
The Minister encouraged students to remain focused, disciplined, and agile in their academic journey, noting that their success would play a direct role in improving Namibia’s health outcomes.
Dr. Luvindao also acknowledged the unwavering role played by parents and guardians, describing them as the foundation behind each student’s achievements. “Your support has brought them this far, and your guidance is still needed in the journey ahead,” she added.
Project 2025 is a strategic move to bridge the skills gap in Namibia’s healthcare sector and ensure the nation remains equipped with qualified professionals capable of responding to future health challenges.
