Local Authority Councillors Undergo Induction Workshop in Otjiwarongo. On Monday, 2 March 2026, Local Authority Councillors, Chief Executive Officers, and administrators gathered in Otjiwarongo for an induction workshop designed to strengthen governance and operational effectiveness across Namibia’s local authorities.

The workshop brought together participants from Otjiwarongo Municipality, City of Windhoek, Okahandja Municipality, Grootfontein Municipality, Otavi Town Council, and Okakarara Town Council. The program focused on equipping officials with knowledge of legislation, roles, and principles that guide local authority operations in Namibia

Key topics discussed included the purpose and objectives of the induction workshop, an overview of legislation governing local authorities, and clarification of the roles of councils, management committees, committees of the council, chief executive officers, and other staff members. The sessions also addressed the code of conduct for councillors, reinforcing the importance of ethical leadership and accountability in public service.

Organizers emphasized that the induction workshop is critical for ensuring that newly elected and appointed officials understand their responsibilities and the frameworks within which they operate. By strengthening institutional knowledge, the workshop aims to promote efficiency, transparency, and effective service delivery at the local level.

The gathering also provided a platform for peer learning and collaboration among municipalities and town councils, fostering stronger networks to address shared challenges in governance and administration.

As Namibia continues to prioritize good governance and community development, the induction workshop in Otjiwarongo represents a proactive step toward building capable institutions that can deliver on their mandates. Participants are expected to apply the insights gained to enhance decision-making, improve council operations, and strengthen the relationship between local authorities and the communities they serve.
