Keetmanshoop Vocational Training Centre Inaugurated to Advance Skills Development. The Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture has inaugurated the Keetmanshoop Vocational Training Centre (VTC) in the //Kharas Region, marking the country’s 12th government-owned technical and vocational education centre.
The launch represents a significant step in Namibia’s commitment under NDP6 to equip young people with industry-relevant skills, particularly in emerging sectors such as green hydrogen, oil and gas, and agriculture.
Speaking at the inauguration, Vice President H.E. Lucia Witbooi emphasized the importance of the new facility. “This state-of-the-art facility ultimately belongs to the people of Namibia. The services it will provide are intended to equip our youth with the knowledge and practical skills they require not only to succeed in today’s job market, but also to thrive in a rapidly changing global economy,” she said.
The Keetmanshoop VTC offers a wide range of programmes designed to meet both local and global industry standards. Current courses include:
- Water Supply, Sanitation & Desalination (Levels 1–5)
- Solar Equipment Installation & Maintenance (Levels 1–5)
- Electrical Engineering (Levels 2–5)
- Logistics and Supply Chain Management (Levels 2–5)
- Welding and Fabrication/Coded Welding (Levels 4–5)
- Occupational Health, Safety & Environment (Levels 4–5)
Additional programmes are being operationalized in line with the standards of the Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organisation (OPITO), ensuring that learners are prepared for opportunities in the energy sector.
The inauguration of the Keetmanshoop VTC underscores Namibia’s focus on skills development, innovation, and economic diversification, while providing young Namibians with the tools to contribute meaningfully to national growth and global competitiveness.
