Kalkrand Clean-Up Operation Launched to Support Youth and Community Environment

Kalkrand Clean-Up Operation Launched to Support Youth and Community Environment. Hardap Region Governor Riaan McNab has officially launched the Kalkrand Clean-up Operation under the Cash-for-Work programme of the Office of the Governor, in collaboration with the Kalkrand Village Council.

The initiative brings together 150 youth volunteers who will take part in a village-wide clean-up effort. The campaign forms part of a broader approach to community improvement while creating temporary work opportunities for young people.

During the launch, the focus was placed on improving the local environment through organised waste removal and general cleaning activities across Kalkrand. The programme aims to address visible environmental concerns while also encouraging community participation and shared responsibility for public spaces.

The Cash-for-Work programme provides short-term income opportunities linked to community-based projects. In this case, youth participants are contributing directly to local environmental upkeep, gaining work experience while supporting village cleanliness.

The partnership between the Office of the Governor and the Kalkrand Village Council highlights cooperation between regional and local authorities in implementing community-driven initiatives. The clean-up operation is expected to involve coordinated activities across different parts of the village, with volunteers working in teams.

Beyond the immediate clean-up, the initiative also promotes awareness around environmental responsibility and the importance of maintaining healthy surroundings. Organisers have indicated that such campaigns can help foster a stronger sense of ownership and civic pride among residents.

The launch of the Kalkrand Clean-up Operation reflects ongoing efforts in the Hardap Region to combine social support measures with practical community development projects. By linking youth participation with environmental action, the programme seeks to create visible improvements while offering meaningful short-term engagement for young people.
