Bank of Namibia and Banking Sector Align on Priorities for Year Ahead. The Governor of the Bank of Namibia, Mr Ebson Uanguta, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Bankers’ Association of Namibia, Ms Dantagos Jimmy-Melani, met for a courtesy engagement focused on shared priorities within the country’s financial system.
During the meeting, Governor Uanguta outlined the central bank’s key focus areas for the year ahead. He emphasised efforts to strengthen the institution’s long term sustainability and ensure it remains prepared to support Namibia’s transition to a new economy. These priorities align with the Bank of Namibia’s mandate to maintain price and financial stability.
The discussion covered several areas of mutual interest between the central bank and the banking industry. Among them were advancing smart regulation, improving transparency around banking fees and charges, expanding instant payment systems, and supporting localisation within the financial sector. The integration of climate change considerations and green finance into the financial system was also highlighted as an important area of focus.
The engagement provided an opportunity for both institutions to share perspectives on how regulatory and industry efforts can work together to strengthen Namibia’s financial landscape. The emphasis on instant payments and regulatory innovation reflects ongoing developments in the way financial services are delivered, while the focus on transparency and sustainability points to broader structural priorities.
Ms Jimmy-Melani reaffirmed the Bankers’ Association of Namibia’s support for the Bank of Namibia and expressed confidence in the central bank’s direction. She indicated that the banking sector stands ready to collaborate as these focus areas are advanced.
Both parties underscored the value of continued cooperation between the Bank of Namibia and the banking industry. They noted that close coordination remains essential to maintaining financial stability while encouraging innovation, improving financial inclusion, and supporting sustainable economic growth across the country.
