Heavy Rainfall Disrupts Power Supply in Aroab and Surrounding Areas

Heavy Rainfall Disrupts Power Supply in Aroab and Surrounding Areas. Communities in Aroab and neighboring regions continue to experience unplanned power outages due to persistent heavy rainfall and severe weather conditions affecting electrical infrastructure. The outages, which began at the onset of the rainy season, have impacted not only Aroab but also Koes, Rietfontein (South Africa), and other areas supplied by the Nabas Substation.

NamPower reports that adverse weather has led to damaged infrastructure, including poles struck by lightning and weakened by prolonged exposure to saturated soil. In some areas, utility poles are surrounded by water, complicating access and slowing down repair efforts.

The current weather-related disruptions are not isolated to Aroab. Other affected locations include Ai-Ais, Maltahöhe, Aminuis, Kalkrand, Opuwo, Kalkfeld, Hochfeld, and Otjinene, each experiencing varying degrees of impact based on local weather conditions.

NamPower technical teams are actively responding, despite the challenges posed by flooded terrain and ongoing rain. Repair crews are working extended hours to assess damage and restore power safely and efficiently to affected communities.“We understand the inconvenience this has caused and sincerely thank residents for their patience,” NamPower said in a statement. “Our teams remain fully committed to restoring electricity in a timely and safe manner.”

The utility urges residents to exercise caution around damaged infrastructure and to report any new incidents as weather conditions evolve.
