City of Windhoek Supports Cultural and Developmental Cooperation at Oshakati Totem Expo Gala

City of Windhoek Supports Cultural and Developmental Cooperation at Oshakati Totem Expo Gala. The City of Windhoek reaffirmed its commitment to local government cooperation and cultural preservation by participating in the 2025 Oshakati Totem Expo Fundraising Gala Dinner, held on Saturday, 10 May at the Oshakati Town Council Civic Centre Green Park.

Led by Deputy Mayor Her Worship Cllr. Clemencia Hanases, the Windhoek delegation included Cllr. Joseph Uapingene and Cllr. Sade Gawanas. The event brought together community leaders, captains of industry, and government representatives in support of the upcoming Oshakati Totem Expo scheduled for 31 May to 07 June 2025.

In line with the cooperation agreement between the City of Windhoek and the Oshakati Town Council, the delegation’s presence demonstrated an active commitment to inter-municipal collaboration, cultural exchange, and national development. During the event, the City of Windhoek pledged NAD5,000 towards the Expo.

The Oshakati Totem Expo celebrates Namibia’s indigenous knowledge systems, traditional customs, and totems—many of which have been historically marginalized. By supporting the Expo, the City of Windhoek contributes to the preservation and promotion of Namibia’s diverse cultural heritage, while also encouraging community-led development.

As preparations for the Expo continue, this engagement reinforces the role of local authorities in advancing development through inclusive cultural platforms that recognize and honour Namibia’s roots.
