City of Windhoek Launches Urgent Repairs Following Sewer Damage Near Arebbusch River. The City of Windhoek has announced that it is undertaking urgent repair and maintenance work on sewer infrastructure severely damaged by recent heavy rains. The affected area spans from Aviation Road (near the airport) to the Western Bypass near Acacia, following the course of the Arebbusch River.
According to a public notice issued by the municipality, the damage includes washed-away manhole covers, severely damaged pipelines, and broken manhole chambers. These complications have resulted in sand and stone infiltrating the sewer lines, making unblocking efforts difficult. Some pipe diameters reach up to 450 mm, further complicating the cleaning process.
City engineers and maintenance teams are currently assessing the extent of the damage while initiating necessary repair interventions. Their focus is on identifying any areas with substantial damage and restoring service in a timely and efficient manner.
The City of Windhoek has emphasized the need for residents to remain understanding during this period of disruption, as the Sewer Section continues its efforts to bring services back online. No timeline has yet been given for the full restoration, as evaluations are still ongoing.
