City of Windhoek Launches Leadership Training for Informal Market Committees

City of Windhoek Launches Leadership Training for Informal Market Committees. The City of Windhoek’s Department of Economic Development & Community Services, together with BGZ and the Namibia Institute for Democracy (NID), has initiated a two-day leadership and market management training aimed at newly elected informal market committee members. This initiative is part of the CAPTURE project, focused on supporting and empowering local traders in the city.

The training session targets committee members elected last week from various informal markets including Semi Market (behind Hilton Hotel), Post Street Mall, Katutura Riverside, and Wernhill Market. Over two days, participants receive training in key areas such as leadership skills, conflict management, hygiene practices, problem-solving, and decision-making processes.

As part of the program, committee members will be tasked with developing a six-month action plan to enhance the management and operations of their respective markets. At the conclusion of the training, each participant will be awarded a certificate of attendance.

Several committee representatives expressed enthusiasm about their new roles, highlighting their readiness to serve fellow traders and address challenges within their markets.

Following this initial training, the program will continue in July with sessions planned for committee members from the Klein Windhoek market (Checkers Hidas), Taxi Rank (Shoprite Independence Ave), and Nelson Mandela Market.
