City of Windhoek and PowerCom Partner to Boost Urban Safety with CCTV Expansion

City of Windhoek and PowerCom Partner to Boost Urban Safety with CCTV Expansion. In a move aimed at enhancing public safety and strengthening smart policing capabilities, the City of Windhoek has signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PowerCom, paving the way for the donation and deployment of 25 additional CCTV cameras to the Windhoek City Police.

The agreement, signed earlier today, formalizes a collaborative framework between the two entities, covering aspects such as camera procurement, installation, monitoring, and data management. The new cameras will be strategically installed at high-risk and key locations throughout the city.

Windhoek Mayor, Councillor Ndeshihafela Larandja, welcomed the initiative, calling it a “progressive milestone” in the city’s journey toward becoming one of Africa’s safest urban centres. She thanked PowerCom for its partnership, emphasizing that the donation reflects a shared commitment to public safety, community trust, and support for law enforcement.

The additional cameras will be mounted on existing PowerCom telecommunications infrastructure, allowing for cost-effective implementation and broader surveillance coverage. This expansion will supplement the current network of 153 CCTV cameras already operated by the City Police as part of its smart policing strategy.
