Boxing Board Issues Stern Warning Against Unsanctioned Exhibition Fight in Oshakati

Boxing Board Issues Stern Warning Against Unsanctioned Exhibition Fight in Oshakati. The Namibian Boxing and Control Board has issued a strong warning to veteran boxer Harry Simon, Faith Foundation, and Onkugo Promotions against proceeding with a scheduled exhibition fight between Simon and former boxer Paulus ‘Ninja’ Shimweefeleni, set for 14 June 2025.

According to the board, the event has not been officially sanctioned due to non-compliance with regulatory requirements, including the medical clearance of both fighters. The board made its position clear earlier this week, citing the absence of proper documentation and procedural approval.

Speaking to Confidente, the board’s vice-chairperson Anita Tjombe stressed that any attempt to proceed with the fight will lead to severe disciplinary action. “We are going to strip him [Simon and Onkugo Promotions] of their boxing licenses for six years, including the undercard boxers,” she stated. “They told us they would comply with the rules but failed to do so. We have alerted NamPol in Oshakati not to allow the fight to go ahead.”

Tjombe emphasized that the board’s role is to protect the safety of all athletes and uphold professional standards. “It seems like these people do not listen,” she added, referring to previous engagements with the organisers.

Despite the board’s firm stance, organisers have indicated that the exhibition fight will still take place, raising concerns over possible defiance of national sports regulations.

The situation remains tense as spectators await confirmation on whether the fight will be forcibly halted by law enforcement or go ahead in defiance of the board’s directive.

The Namibian Boxing and Control Board has reiterated that any unsanctioned boxing activity not only puts athletes at risk but also undermines the integrity of the sport.
