Capricorn Foundation Honours 35 Namibia Community Leaders for Grassroots IImpact. Capricorn Group, through the Capricorn Foundation and in partnership with Imago Dei, has recognised 35 grassroots community leaders from across Namibia for their contribution to communities across the country.

The community leaders were honoured during a Celebrating Community Heroes ceremony held at the Cricket Namibia Sports Grounds during Heroes’ Day week. The Honourable Dr Emma Kantema, MP, Minister of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, attended as Guest of Honour and presented each of the 35 honourees with a certificate of appreciation.

The ceremony recognised organisations and individuals described as community heroes whose work addresses needs in communities and contributes to social development. Many of the organisations recognised receive support from the Capricorn Foundation, the corporate social investment arm of Capricorn Group.

Welcoming guests, Marlize Horn, Group Chief Brand and Corporate Affairs Officer at Capricorn Group, thanked the community leaders for their work and commitment.Horn said the Foundation’s approach is guided by Capricorn Group’s purpose of “Being Connectors of Positive Change”.

She explained that this involves connecting community organisations with resources, networks and capacity, rather than focusing only on financial support.

The Minister, speaking under the theme “Service Beyond Self: The Power of Everyday Heroes”, said the honourees demonstrated heroism through responsibility, compassion and moral courage.

She said government has a role in leading, legislating, coordinating and investing, while community leaders help translate policies and programmes into practical support within homes, schools, clinics and neighbourhoods.

The Minister also highlighted initiatives addressing food security, child protection, early childhood development, women’s livelihoods and frontline community support.

Capricorn Group Chief Executive Officer David Nuyoma delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the community leaders for continuing their work even when it is difficult and receives little public recognition.

The organisations recognised operate across areas including early childhood development, youth programmes, child welfare, education, skills training, health, arts and livelihoods.
