Government Receives Donated Land for ICT Development

Government Receives Donated Land for ICT Development. The Namibian government has officially received a parcel of land donated as part of the assets from the dismantled Namibia Post and Telecom Holdings (NPTH). The property, located in Windhoek, was visited yesterday by the Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, and the Minister of Works and Transport, Veikko Nekundi.

NPTH, which previously served as the holding company for MTC, Telecom Namibia, and NamPost, was dismantled last year. In line with the provisions of the enabling legislation, its assets were distributed among Telecom Namibia, NamPost, and the government. The land in question has been divided between the government and Telecom Namibia, with plans to utilize it for ICT developmental projects.

During the site visit, Minister Theofelus emphasized the importance of the donation in advancing Namibia’s digital transformation agenda. She noted that the land provides an opportunity to expand infrastructure and strengthen the country’s capacity to deliver modern communication services.

The Ministry of Works and Transport was present at the visit in its role as custodian of government properties. Minister Nekundi highlighted the significance of ensuring that donated assets are properly managed and aligned with national development priorities.

The allocation of land for ICT projects reflects Namibia’s broader commitment to harnessing technology for socio-economic growth. By investing in infrastructure and innovation, the government aims to improve connectivity, enhance service delivery, and create opportunities for communities across the country.

This development underscores the collaborative role of public institutions in shaping Namibia’s future, with ICT positioned as a key driver of modernization and competitiveness.
