Bank of Namibia and MTC Maris Strengthen Collaboration on Digital Finance. The Governor of the Bank of Namibia, Mr. Ebson Uanguta, together with the Bank’s senior management team, welcomed a courtesy visit from MTC Maris, the mobile financial services subsidiary of MTC, earlier this week.
The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between the regulator and industry, with discussions covering progress on the Instant Payment Programme (IPP), opportunities to expand digital financial services, and the role of mobile technology in advancing financial inclusion across Namibia.
With mobile networks reaching the majority of the population, digital platforms were highlighted as a significant opportunity to bring more Namibians into the formal financial system. The engagement underscored the importance of leveraging mobile technology to reduce barriers to access and ensure that financial services are available to underserved communities.
Governor Uanguta welcomed the dialogue, noting that continued cooperation between regulators and industry players is essential for building a secure, innovative, and inclusive digital financial ecosystem. He emphasized that partnerships of this nature will play a key role in ensuring Namibia’s financial sector adapts to global trends while meeting the needs of its citizens.
MTC Maris representatives expressed their commitment to supporting national efforts aimed at expanding digital financial services, highlighting the potential of mobile platforms to drive efficiency, convenience, and accessibility.
The courtesy visit reflects a shared vision between the Bank of Namibia and MTC Maris: to strengthen financial inclusion and ensure that digital innovation contributes to sustainable economic growth. As Namibia continues to advance its digital finance agenda, such engagements are expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the country’s financial future.
