MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing Academy Announces May 9 Tribute Bonanza. The MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing Academy, in partnership with the Sam Nujoma Foundation, has confirmed that the “Tribute to His Excellency Dr. Sam Shafishuna Nujoma Boxing Bonanza” will take place on May 9, 2026, in Windhoek. The event, now established as an annual fixture, celebrates the Founding Father’s contribution to Namibia and his role in promoting the sport of boxing.
World-rated Fillipus Nghitumbwa will headline the card against Colombia’s Leonardo Carrillo, the WBA Fedelatin Champion ranked 14th globally. The night will also showcase Namibia’s top boxing talent, including Mateus Heita, Harry Simon Jr., Joy Nangolo, Naftalie Sheyapo, and Martin Mukungu.
Sponsored by MTC, PstBet, and the Namibia Tourism Board, the initiative honors Dr. Nujoma’s legacy and his belief in the nation’s potential. Organizers have encouraged both public and corporate leaders to support the event through financial or in-kind contributions, reinforcing its role as a community-driven celebration of sport and heritage.
The Bonanza is expected to draw significant attention from boxing fans and the wider public, offering a platform for Namibian athletes to showcase their skills against international opponents. It also reflects the Academy’s ongoing mission to elevate boxing in Namibia while paying tribute to figures who have shaped the country’s history.
With a strong lineup and symbolic significance, the May 9 event promises to be both a sporting spectacle and a cultural celebration, strengthening Namibia’s reputation as a hub for boxing excellence.
