Public Servants Embrace Wellness and Unity at National Marathon and Fun Day. Public servants from across Namibia came together in a spirit of unity and purpose for the Public Service Marathon and Fun Day, hosted by the Office of the Prime Minister. The flagship initiative aims to promote staff wellness, physical health, and productivity while fostering teamwork, solidarity, and service excellence across all Ministries, Offices, and Agencies.
Held on Friday, 7 November 2025, at the University of Namibia (UNAM) Main Campus Sports Field, the event brought together hundreds of government employees who participated in a range of activities including a marathon, wellness walk, and team sports. The atmosphere reflected camaraderie, collective energy, and a shared commitment to building a healthier, more motivated public service workforce.
Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Prime Minister, Minister of Works and Transport Veiko Nekundi highlighted the vital importance of mental and physical well-being in public service delivery. “Mental health is not a privilege for a few,” he said. “It is the foundation of human dignity, productivity, and hope.”
The event forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen workplace wellness and ensure that public servants are empowered to serve with excellence and compassion. Through initiatives like this, the government underscores the link between employee wellness and national performance, reaffirming that a healthy public service is central to effective governance.
The marathon and fun day also served as a platform for strengthening inter-ministerial collaboration and cultivating a culture of unity among the nation’s workforce. Participants left the event reenergized, motivated, and inspired to continue serving the country with renewed vigor and shared purpose.
