Windhoek Tops List for Namibia’s Most Expensive Biltong Prices

Windhoek Tops List for Namibia’s Most Expensive Biltong Prices. Windhoek has recorded the highest biltong prices in Namibia, with consumers in the capital paying about N$570 per kilogram, according to the latest Namibia Consumer Price Index (NCPI) released by the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA).

The report indicates that biltong in Windhoek costs N$151.65 more than the average price in other regions across the country, highlighting a significant regional price disparity for one of Namibia’s most popular dried meat products.

While the NCPI did not specify the reasons behind the price gap, it reflects broader cost trends in Windhoek, where higher consumer prices are typically recorded across several food and household categories due to transport costs, demand, and market concentration.

The NSA’s data forms part of its regular monthly monitoring of inflation and cost-of-living indicators. The report tracks the prices of goods and services across major regions to measure changes in purchasing power and regional price stability.

Biltong remains a staple snack in Namibia, popular among both locals and tourists, and price fluctuations often mirror broader movements in meat prices and production costs. The latest figures show that meat-related products continue to play a strong role in influencing Namibia’s overall food inflation rate.

Economists note that regional variations such as those seen in biltong pricing may also reflect differences in local supply chains and the concentration of retail outlets, particularly in urban areas like Windhoek, where consumer demand is higher.
