Environmental Investment Fund Donates ICT Equipment Worth N$1.5 Million to Strengthen Namibia’s Emergency Response

Environmental Investment Fund Donates ICT Equipment Worth N$1.5 Million to Strengthen Namibia’s Emergency Response. The Environmental Investment Fund (EIF) of Namibia has donated Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment valued at N$1.5 million to support the establishment and operationalisation of the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC).

The initiative falls under the Office of the Prime Minister and is aimed at enhancing the country’s capacity to coordinate disaster management and emergency responses more effectively.

The official handover took place during the commemoration of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, where EIF Chief Executive Officer Benedict Libanda presented the equipment to Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Elijah Ngurare.

The donation marks a key step in strengthening Namibia’s disaster preparedness infrastructure, ensuring that the NEOC is equipped with the tools required to improve data management, communication, and coordination among national and regional emergency teams.

Speaking during the handover, Libanda highlighted the Fund’s commitment to supporting national initiatives that promote resilience and sustainable development. The EIF continues to play a central role in mobilising resources for environmental sustainability and climate adaptation efforts across Namibia.

Prime Minister Ngurare expressed appreciation for the contribution, noting that improved ICT capacity is essential for timely disaster response and coordination. The NEOC will serve as a central hub for managing emergencies ranging from droughts and floods to other climate-related risks.

The donation reflects ongoing collaboration between Namibia’s public institutions in building a proactive, technology-driven approach to disaster risk management.
