Namibia Launches First Commercial-Scale Green Hydrogen Fertiliser Plant. Capricorn Group and Bank Windhoek today joined partners in celebrating a milestone in Namibia’s journey toward green industrialisation with the official move from pilot to commercial scale of the Daures Green Hydrogen Ammonium Phosphate Fertiliser Plant.
Situated in the Daures Constituency in the Erongo Region, the facility marks a new chapter in sustainable development by linking renewable energy to agriculture. The project aims to showcase how green hydrogen can be harnessed to produce fertiliser locally, reducing reliance on imports while stimulating economic activity in rural communities.
Capricorn Group and Bank Windhoek, serving as the banking partners, emphasised their pride in supporting a project that not only advances Namibia’s green energy ambitions but also builds a foundation for inclusive growth.
“This initiative is more than renewable energy. It is about creating skills, opportunities, and driving shared prosperity,” the partners highlighted during the launch.
The fertiliser plant is expected to create jobs, foster technical expertise, and open opportunities for smallholder and commercial farmers alike by making fertiliser more accessible. Beyond the economic benefits, the project is designed with sustainability at its core, reflecting Namibia’s broader vision to position itself as a leader in green hydrogen production and climate-friendly industrialisation.
The Daures project also signals Namibia’s intent to use innovation as a tool for resilience in food production. With the integration of renewable energy, it stands as an example of how partnerships between financial institutions, industry, and communities can transform national development goals into practical outcomes.
For Capricorn Group and Bank Windhoek, the investment aligns with their commitment to act as “connectors of positive change,” supporting projects that contribute to both business growth and long-term sustainability.
