Bank of Namibia Deepens Cooperation with Deutsche Bundesbank on Sustainable Finance

Bank of Namibia Deepens Cooperation with Deutsche Bundesbank on Sustainable Finance. The Bank of Namibia recently hosted a delegation from the Deutsche Bundesbank for a three-day technical engagement under the European System of Central Banks (ESCB) Project with African Central Banks. The visit marked another step in a longstanding partnership between the two institutions, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

According to the Bank of Namibia, the programme provided a valuable platform for discussions on strategic priorities, governance, data and risk management. Particular emphasis was placed on opportunities to strengthen efforts around greening the financial system, reflecting growing international attention on sustainable finance and climate-related risks.

The collaboration builds on the broader ESCB initiative aimed at enhancing the technical capacity of African central banks. For Namibia, the exchange underscored the importance of adopting practices that support financial stability, resilience and innovation in line with global standards.

The Bank of Namibia highlighted that engagements of this nature are critical to sharing expertise and strengthening institutional frameworks. By leveraging the experience of the Deutsche Bundesbank, one of Europe’s leading central banks, Namibia gains access to practical insights on risk management and stress testing, as well as strategies for incorporating environmental and climate factors into financial supervision.

The technical sessions concluded with both institutions reaffirming their commitment to deepening cooperation. The Bank of Namibia described the visit as a milestone in its efforts to ensure that the country’s financial system remains robust while adapting to emerging global challenges.
