Kunene Community Engages in Condo Outreach Sports Programme. The Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture (MEIYSAC) hosted the Condo Outreach Sports Programme in Condor/Grootberg, Sesfontein Constituency, Kunene Region, over the weekend. The two-day event formed part of the Ministry’s Mass Participation Programme, designed to give communities more opportunities to engage in sport and develop athletic talent.
The programme featured football, netball, and horse racing, attracting participants and spectators from across the region. The event served as both a celebration of sport and a platform for unity, with activities aimed at strengthening community ties and showcasing local potential.
Delivering the keynote address, Ms. Jo-Ann N. Manuel, Director of Sports Development, thanked the community for its active participation and acknowledged the support of leadership and sponsors in making the outreach possible. She also paid tribute to athletes from the Kunene Region who have already made their mark nationally and internationally.
Among those highlighted were the Katupose brothers of the Brave Warriors, Uerikondjera Kasaona, the first female coach to lead a male team to victory at this year’s Namibian Newspaper Cup in Outjo, and internationally recognised kickboxer Delano Muller. Their achievements, Ms. Manuel noted, are evidence that initiatives like the outreach programme can inspire and nurture future champions.
She stressed that the outreach is not a one-off event but the beginning of a long-term programme aimed at developing talent in the region. “In ten years, we want to look back at this pilot and celebrate the athletes who were discovered here and went on to join Kunene’s list of sporting greats,” she said.
Ms. Manuel encouraged the community to take ownership of the initiative, emphasising sport’s role in creating opportunities, strengthening identity, and building sustainable livelihoods.
