Matumbo Ribebe Learner Awarded Scholarship to Study in Rwanda

Matumbo Ribebe Learner Awarded Scholarship to Study in Rwanda. A 17-year-old learner from Matumbo Angeline Ribebe Secondary School in the Kavango East Region has secured a three-year scholarship to further his education in Rwanda. Anton Kanyanga, a Grade 11 pupil, was officially bid farewell by his teachers and classmates on Monday following the announcement of his award from the African Olympiad Academy.

The Kigali-based academy is a world-class residential high school that specializes in advanced Mathematics, Science, and Critical Thinking. Kanyanga will travel to Windhoek on Thursday before departing for Rwanda on 1 September to join the September intake of the academy.

The scholarship comes as recognition of Kanyanga’s strong academic performance and his achievements in mathematics competitions on the continental and global stage. Earlier this year, he competed in the Pan-African Mathematics Olympiad (PAMO) held in July in Gaborone, Botswana. Shortly afterward, he represented Namibia at the International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO), which took place from 10 to 20 July in Queensland, Australia.

Teachers and classmates at Matumbo Angeline Ribebe Secondary School commended Kanyanga’s discipline, dedication, and academic excellence, describing him as a role model for other learners. His success has brought pride to both his school and the Kavango East Region, highlighting the potential of Namibian learners in international academic competitions.

The African Olympiad Academy scholarship is expected to provide Kanyanga with a platform to strengthen his skills in mathematics and science while fostering critical thinking abilities. The opportunity also places him among a select group of young African scholars being groomed for future contributions in science, technology, and innovation.
