PETROFUND Opens Scholarships for Namibian Students in Petroleum Industry. PETROFUND, the Petroleum Training and Education Fund, has announced that it is offering scholarships for the 2026 academic year to support Namibians pursuing careers in the upstream petroleum industry. This initiative is part of the fund’s continued efforts to build a skilled workforce ahead of planned oil and gas developments in the Orange Basin offshore Namibia.
The scholarship programme is open to high-performing Namibians and covers undergraduate and postgraduate studies. Undergraduate scholarships are available for students in the SADC region in fields such as Civil, Marine, Chemical, Electrical, Power, Industrial, and Mechanical Engineering, as well as Geosciences and Instrumentation Engineering Technology in Oil and Gas. Postgraduate scholarships at the University of Namibia are available for a Master of Science in Petroleum Geology.
Additionally, postgraduate scholarships for overseas study are being offered for programmes including Exploration Geophysics, Petroleum Geophysics, Reservoir Evaluation Management, Petroleum Engineering and Project Development, Marine Engineering, Drilling Engineering, Oil and Gas Engineering, Fire Safety Engineering, Naval Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Process Safety, Carbon Capture Management, and Oil and Gas Law. Applicants interested in United Kingdom programmes must also apply via the Chevening website.
To qualify, candidates must be Namibian citizens with strong academic performance. Undergraduate applicants are expected to have excellent results in mathematics, sciences, and English at the AS or A level. Postgraduate applicants must provide proof of admission to their intended course and submit relevant documentation, including police clearance.
Application forms for undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships have been distributed to regional councils, and online applications can be completed through the PETROFUND portal. The deadline for submissions is Tuesday, 7 October 2025, at 13:00.
