Namibia and Germany Extend 30-Year Youth Sport Exchange Partnership. The Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture has renewed its long-standing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Germany’s Fussball- und Leichtathletik Verband Westfalen E.V., extending the Youth Sport Exchange Programme and school twinning initiative for years to come.
A Namibian delegation travelled to Germany to formalise the agreement, which has been in place since 1995. Over the past three decades, the partnership has fostered cross-cultural exchange, sports development, and youth empowerment, producing notable Namibian athletes such as Razundara Tjikuzu, Colin Benjamin, and Awilo.
The delegation included Executive Director Gerard Norman Vries, Deputy Director for School Sports Irvine Ndjavera, Senior Sport Officer Roger Kambatuku, Director for Programmes and Quality Assurance Ayesha Wentworth, and Director of Finance Levinia Karises.
The Youth Sport Exchange Programme offers Namibian youth international exposure through sports competitions, advanced training, and cultural immersion. Participating schools benefit from the twinning initiative, which promotes knowledge-sharing and educational collaboration between Namibian and German institutions.
The renewed MoU underscores both nations’ commitment to investing in youth development through sport and education. Beyond athletic skill, the programme focuses on building leadership, discipline, and intercultural understanding among young participants.
For Namibia, the extension of this partnership presents continued opportunities for young athletes to access world-class coaching, facilities, and global networks. For Germany, it reaffirms a dedication to fostering global relationships and mutual learning.
The programme’s longevity reflects its impact and the shared belief that sport is a powerful tool for education, unity, and opportunity. With the renewal, the next generation of Namibian and German youth will carry forward a legacy built over 30 years of friendship, competition, and shared growth.
