Kavango East to Host 2025 National Fish Consumption Day in Rundu. The National Fish Consumption Promotion Trust (NFCPT) has officially set the stage for the 2025 National Fish Consumption Day (NFCD), with Kavango East confirmed as the host region. The announcement was made by NFCPT Board of Trustees Chairperson, Mrs. Suzan Ndjaleka, during a breakfast launch event in Walvis Bay.
The 13th edition of NFCD will take place on 27 September 2025 in Rundu, marking a significant opportunity to highlight the nutritional, economic, and community benefits of fish consumption. The launch signals the start of a series of pre-event activities aimed at engaging schools, youth, and the wider community ahead of the main celebration.
Among the planned activities are a school sports tournament featuring netball and soccer, as well as school activation programmes designed to spread awareness about the health and economic importance of fish. Educational outreach and sales promotions will also be held to encourage greater consumption and appreciation of fish products within the region.
In support of these initiatives, sponsors have contributed sports kits and medals for participating schools, ensuring that young athletes in Kavango East can compete with both pride and visibility. This gesture aligns with the NFCD’s mission of combining community engagement with practical health and nutrition advocacy.
The National Fish Consumption Day has become a flagship annual event for NFCPT, travelling to different regions each year to encourage local fish consumption while supporting regional economic participation. With Kavango East as the 2025 host, organisers aim to draw widespread community involvement leading up to and during the event in Rundu.
