Namibia and Germany Extend Three-Decade Youth Sport Exchange Partnership

Namibia and Germany Extend Three-Decade Youth Sport Exchange Partnership. Namibia and Germany have reaffirmed their long-standing commitment to youth development through the renewal of the Youth Sport Exchange Programme Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). A Namibian delegation traveled to Germany to formalize the agreement between Namibia’s Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture and the Fussball-Und Leichtathletik Verband Westfalen E.V.

The renewed MoU will continue to facilitate the Youth Sport Exchange Programme, alongside a school twinning initiative connecting Namibian and German schools. First established in 1995, the partnership has spanned three decades, promoting cross-cultural engagement, sports development, and educational collaboration.

Over the years, the programme has provided young Namibian athletes with valuable international exposure, high-level training, and intercultural learning opportunities. It has also played a role in shaping notable sports careers, with participants including Razundara Tjikuzu, Colin Benjamin, and Awilo.

The Namibian delegation included Mr. Gerard Norman Vries, Executive Director; Mr. Irvine Ndjavera, Deputy Director for School Sports; Mr. Roger Kambatuku, Senior Sport Officer; Ms. Ayesha Wentworth, Director for Programmes and Quality Assurance; and Ms. Levinia Karises, Director for Finance.

By combining sports training with educational and cultural exchange, the programme continues to serve as a platform for personal growth, mutual understanding, and skills development. The renewed agreement highlights the commitment of both nations to nurturing future generations through collaborative efforts in sport and education.

With its history of producing skilled athletes and fostering global connections, the Youth Sport Exchange Programme remains a testament to the enduring value of international partnerships in empowering youth. The extension ensures that Namibian and German students and athletes will continue to benefit from shared knowledge, experiences, and opportunities for years to come.
