Namibia to Mark World Day Against Trafficking in Persons with National Event in Rundu

Namibia to Mark World Day Against Trafficking in Persons with National Event in Rundu. Namibia will commemorate the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons on 30 July 2025 in Rundu, with this year’s global theme: “Human Trafficking is Organized Crime—End the Exploitation.” The event will serve as a national platform to raise awareness, strengthen coordination, and reaffirm the country’s commitment to combating all forms of human trafficking.

The commemoration, expected to bring together representatives from government, civil society, law enforcement, and international partners, will focus on the organized networks behind trafficking crimes and the urgent need to dismantle systems of exploitation. With Rundu being one of the key border towns in northern Namibia, the choice of location highlights the importance of targeting vulnerable transit zones where trafficking risks are heightened.

The event will feature awareness campaigns, educational sessions, survivor testimonies, and community outreach activities aimed at promoting public vigilance and victim support. Special emphasis will be placed on improving cross-border collaboration and strengthening Namibia’s legal and institutional framework for addressing trafficking in persons (TIP).

Organizers have indicated that the 2025 observance will spotlight the role of organized criminal syndicates in exploiting individuals for forced labor, sexual exploitation, and other forms of abuse—crimes that often go undetected without community-level engagement and robust enforcement mechanisms.

The Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare, in collaboration with regional stakeholders and anti-trafficking taskforces, is leading the initiative, calling on citizens to report suspicious activities and to stand united in protecting vulnerable groups.
