City of Windhoek Recognised for Social Media Excellence at National Government Communication Engagement. The City of Windhoek has been recognised among top-performing institutions in public sector social media engagement during the recently concluded Government Communication Officers Engagement held in Rundu, Kavango East Region.
The three-day event, hosted by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) under the theme “Strengthening Government Communication for Transparency and Impact,” brought together communication professionals from ministries, public enterprises, regional councils, and local authorities across Namibia.
The engagement aimed to foster stronger collaboration and alignment of government messaging to enhance public transparency and support effective implementation of National Development Plan 6 (NDP6).
Opening the session, Dr. Audrin Mathe, Executive Director at MICT, stressed the importance of inclusive, consistent, and clear government communication. “We must embrace a culture of openness and ensure our communication reaches all members of society,” he said.
Participants discussed several key areas, including the Government Communication Strategy, integration of communication activities with NDP6 goals, the rollout of the official Corporate Identity Manual, and findings from the Office, Ministries and Agencies (OMA) Social Media Audit.
The City of Windhoek was singled out as a standout performer in public sector digital engagement. This recognition highlights the city’s commitment to effective citizen communication and its investment in digital platforms that bridge the gap between government services and residents.
