Namibia Participates in AU-EU Talks to Advance Continental Development. Namibia’s Deputy Minister of International Relations and Trade, Hon. Jenelly Matundu, led the country’s delegation to the 3rd African Union-European Union (AU-EU) Ministerial Meeting held on 21 May 2025 in Brussels.
The high-level gathering brought together ministers and officials from both continents to assess progress and strengthen collaboration under the AU-EU partnership. The dialogue remains grounded in the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the European Union’s strategic priorities, aiming to align mutual goals in areas such as economic development, governance, and global cooperation.
During the session focused on “Prosperity,” Hon. Matundu underscored the importance of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), emphasizing its role in driving long-term sustainable development across the continent. She further highlighted Namibia’s commitment to regional integration and expressed support for continued EU collaboration in key sectors, including infrastructure development, industrialization, and skills transfer.
The Ministerial Meeting followed a preparatory consultation on 20 May between AU Foreign Ministers, Executive Council members, and the Chairperson of the African Union Commission. These deliberations laid the groundwork for the discussions, which also explored resilience, peace, security, and multilateral cooperation.
Namibia’s participation reaffirms its support for multilateralism and continental partnerships aimed at unlocking Africa’s development potential. The meeting also served as a platform for African countries to advocate for a more balanced and inclusive relationship with the EU, grounded in mutual respect and shared objectives.
As the AU-EU partnership progresses, Namibia remains actively engaged in contributing to continental initiatives that strengthen economic ties and enhance regional collaboration.
