Bank of Namibia Unveils N$60 Commemorative Banknote Honouring Dr. Hage Geingob. The Bank of Namibia has officially launched a N$60 commemorative banknote in tribute to the late Dr. Hage G. Geingob, recognizing his lasting impact on Namibia’s democracy, economy, and social progress. The banknote, unveiled today, stands as a symbol of his leadership and dedication to national unity.

Speaking at the launch, President Dr. Nangolo Mbumba described the initiative as a tribute to Dr. Geingob’s lifelong commitment to peace and inclusivity. “This commemorative banknote immortalises Dr. Geingob’s steadfast leadership and lifelong commitment to peace, unity, and resilience,” he stated.

Vice President and President-elect Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah emphasized that Namibia must continue advancing the vision shared by Dr. Geingob and the late Dr. Sam Nujoma for a united and inclusive nation.

The Governor of the Bank of Namibia, Mr. Johannes !Gawaxab, highlighted Dr. Geingob’s economic legacy, particularly the establishment of the Welwitschia Fund, Namibia’s sovereign wealth fund. “This fund stands as a testament to his unwavering dedication to economic sustainability, social development, and intergenerational equity,” he said.

The N$60 banknote, printed on polymer, features advanced security elements such as coloured intaglio print, Argentum silver ink, and gold accents. A transparent window displays Dr. Geingob’s portrait, while a secondary window showcases the Independence Memorial Museum. Other features include microtext reading “Forward Ever, Backward Never, 60,” raised tactile dots for the visually impaired, and a custom serial number starting with ‘HGG.’

Ahead of its official issuance on March 17, 2025, the Bank of Namibia will launch a public education campaign to familiarize citizens with its design and security features. The banknote will circulate as legal tender while also serving as a collector’s item, preserving Dr. Geingob’s legacy for future generations.
