Government Allocates N$12 Million for Rural Electrification in Hardap and ||Kharas. The Namibian government has allocated N$12 million for rural electrification in the Hardap and ||Kharas regions for the 2025/2026 financial year, aiming to improve access to electricity in underserved communities.
Deputy Minister of Mines and Energy, Kornelia Shilunga, announced the funding during the official inauguration of electrification projects in Maltahöhe. The initiative is set to benefit residents in Maltahöhe Informal Settlement Extension 1, August Dam, and Kruis Villages, providing much-needed electricity infrastructure.
Shilunga emphasized the government’s commitment to expanding electrification in rural areas and noted that discussions are underway with NamPower to supplement the allocated budget with additional funding from the National Energy Fund. This initiative is expected to further strengthen efforts to bring electricity to more communities in the two regions.
The rural electrification project is part of a broader national strategy to improve energy access, economic opportunities, and living standards for communities in remote areas.
