Bank of Namibia Engages CEOs to Strengthen Financial Sector Resilience. The Bank of Namibia (BoN) hosted a CEO Roundtable on February 17, 2025, bringing together top financial sector leaders to discuss key industry challenges and strategies for future growth. Under the theme “Setting the Scene and Driving Impact for 2025,” the session focused on financial stability, regulatory improvements, climate risk, and technological advancements.
Attendees included the CEOs of banks and major non-banking financial institutions, the Namibia Financial Institutions Supervisory Authority (NAMFISA), and the leadership of BoN. A key highlight was the presentation of the Bank’s 2025-2027 Strategic Plan, outlining BoN’s vision for a smart, inclusive, and resilient financial sector.
BoN Governor Johannes !Gawaxab stressed the need for stronger collaboration in navigating economic uncertainties, citing Namibia’s projected 4.0% GDP growth for 2025. He assured stakeholders that inflation is expected to decline from 5.9% in 2023 to 4.0% in 2025, reflecting sound monetary policies.
Cybersecurity and climate risks were top priorities, with discussions on enhancing AI-driven financial solutions, strengthening cybersecurity frameworks, and boosting climate adaptation financing. The Instant Payment Solution (IPS) was introduced as a key initiative aimed at improving financial inclusion in rural and informal sectors.
The Electronic Know Your Customer (E-KYC) initiative, developed in partnership with the Ministry of Home Affairs, was highlighted as a critical step toward fraud prevention and improved regulatory compliance. Discussions also addressed geopolitical shifts and their impact on global financial markets.
Looking ahead, BoN will co-host the 2025 Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) Global Policy Forum in September, positioning Namibia as a leader in financial inclusion and innovation. The roundtable concluded with a renewed commitment to smart regulation, industry collaboration, and proactive risk mitigation to ensure a resilient financial sector.
