Zambia Engages Namibia in Support of AfDB Presidency Bid. A high-level Zambian delegation, led by H.E. Mr. Enoch Kavindele, Former Vice President and Presidential Envoy, met with Namibia’s Minister of International Relations and Trade, Honourable Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, in Windhoek to seek support for Zambia’s bid for the presidency of the African Development Bank (AfDB).

The meeting centred on Zambia’s official nomination of Dr. Samuel Munzele Maimbo as its candidate for the AfDB presidency. Dr. Maimbo, who has received endorsements from both the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), presented his vision for the Bank and its role in advancing Africa’s development agenda.

Dr. Maimbo emphasized the importance of strengthening financial systems across the continent and enhancing regional cooperation to address development challenges. He highlighted the need for inclusive and sustainable financing models that can support infrastructure growth, economic resilience, and job creation.

Namibia’s Minister of Finance, Honourable Ericah Shafudah, joined Minister Ashipala-Musavyi in welcoming the delegation. The Namibian ministers congratulated Dr. Maimbo on his regional endorsements and encouraged him to continue engaging with stakeholders across the continent as he prepares for the election.

The election for the next President of the African Development Bank is scheduled for 29 May 2025 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, during the institution’s Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors.
