Windhoek Secures N$750,000 Donation to Boost Urban Farming at Farm Okukuna. The Municipal Council of Windhoek has approved a N$750,000 (€35,000) donation from AfriFoodLinks, an EU-funded initiative aimed at promoting sustainable urban agriculture. The funds will be used to enhance infrastructure and equipment at Farm Okukuna, an urban farming project in Goreangab, Windhoek.

Established in 2015, Farm Okukuna is a community-driven initiative designed to combat food insecurity, empower small-scale farmers, and promote sustainable agricultural practices in urban settings. The farm currently operates thirteen greenhouse plots, irrigation systems, and water tanks, supporting local farmers in growing a variety of crops for both subsistence and commercial purposes.

The recent donation will allow for infrastructure improvements, upgraded farming equipment, and expanded support for small-scale producers, helping the farm increase productivity and sustainability.

The City of Windhoek has emphasized its commitment to strengthening urban agriculture as a means to alleviate food poverty and create economic opportunities for local communities. Through partnerships like this, the municipality aims to enhance food security and encourage self-sufficiency among urban farmers.

Farm Okukuna has already provided training and resources to numerous community members, helping them develop sustainable farming skills and generate income. With this new funding, the farm is expected to expand its reach and impact, benefiting even more residents in Windhoek.
