Windhoek Residents Unite for Eighth Mayoral Clean-up Campaign. The City of Windhoek held the eighth edition of its Mayoral Clean-up Campaign this weekend, with residents of Otjomuise 7de Laan in the Khomasdal Constituency coming out in strong numbers to take part.

The initiative drew wide participation from both adults and children, with younger volunteers turning up in impressive force. Members of the Junior Council also rolled up their sleeves, reinforcing the message of leadership through action as they spearhead the campaign among youth during their term.

Private sector partners once again played a pivotal role. Total Energies joined the clean-up drive from start to finish, contributing energy and enthusiasm to the day’s activities. Namica, a long-standing supporter of the campaign, ensured that refreshments were available for all participants, continuing its record of consistent support for the initiative.

Following the clean-up, children took part in an interactive educational session on the City’s Waste Buy-Back Centre. Participants were quizzed on waste management practices, and those who answered correctly walked away with prizes. The session aimed to instill awareness in young residents about recycling, while also highlighting the financial benefits of trading recyclable waste for cash.

Mayor Ndeshihafela Larandja’s message, “My Waste, My Responsibility,” was echoed throughout the day, underscoring the collective responsibility of residents in restoring Windhoek’s reputation as one of Africa’s cleanest cities.

The campaign will continue until October, with the next clean-up scheduled to take place in Katutura Central. Residents are encouraged to join future events to help foster a cleaner, healthier environment for all.

Through this ongoing effort, the City is promoting sustainable practices while strengthening community ties, reminding residents that cleanliness and environmental stewardship are duties shared by everyone.
