Windhoek Mayor Welcomes WIKA Festival Delegation Ahead of 2025 Celebrations

Windhoek Mayor Welcomes WIKA Festival Delegation Ahead of 2025 Celebrations. The Chairperson of the Windhoek Karneval Gesellschaft (WIKA Festival), Frank Schatz, and Committee Member Holger Sircoulumb, paid a courtesy visit to the Mayor of Windhoek, Cllr. Ndeshihafela Larandja, as preparations for the upcoming WIKA Festival gain momentum.

During the visit, the delegation formally introduced themselves to the Mayor and sought the City’s support ahead of the festival, which is scheduled to take place on 29 April 2025. An International Evening event will precede the main festival on 3 April, adding to the anticipated activities.

WIKA is an annual cultural event in Windhoek, celebrated over approximately ten days. Festivities traditionally begin with the ceremonial handover of a symbolic key from the festival’s royal couple to the Mayor, followed by a colorful procession through Independence Avenue to the TransNamib building.

This year’s festival is expected to host around 72 international guests, mostly from Germany. The program will feature live performances by the German music group Happy Sound Orchestra (HSO) as well as a Namibian band, presenting a mix of German traditions and Namibian cultural elements under the theme One Namibia, One Nation.

Mayor Larandja welcomed the WIKA delegation and expressed her appreciation for the festival’s contribution to the city. She acknowledged its role in promoting cultural exchange, fostering community unity, and creating a vibrant atmosphere in Windhoek.

The meeting marks an important step in the ongoing preparations for the festival, which continues to serve as a platform for international and local guests to come together in celebration of culture and diversity.
