Windhoek Mayor Engages Informal Settlement Leaders in Waste Management Training

Windhoek Mayor Engages Informal Settlement Leaders in Waste Management Training. Her Worship, the Mayor of Windhoek, Councillor Ndeshihafela Larandja, met today with Neighborhood Committee members from the city’s informal settlements as they concluded a week-long Solid Waste Management training program hosted by the City of Windhoek’s Solid Waste Management Division.

The training aimed to build awareness and knowledge around proper waste disposal, the impact of solid waste, and the importance of maintaining a clean environment. The program included both classroom sessions and site visits to key waste management facilities, such as landfills, dump sites, a medical waste incinerator, and the Buy-Back Centre for recyclable materials.

The Mayor encouraged participants to apply what they had learned and act as ambassadors for solid waste education in their neighborhoods. The program, which concluded today, is set to continue next week with training for Community Development Committee members.

Also in attendance was Alderwoman Fransina Kahungu, who echoed the Mayor’s sentiments and reinforced the City’s commitment to partnering with communities in its drive to keep Windhoek clean.
