Windhoek Gears Up for /Ae //Gams Festival with Traditional Games and Cook-Off Pre-Event. In anticipation of the upcoming Windhoek /Ae //Gams Arts & Cultural Festival, the City of Windhoek is setting the stage with a lively pre-festival celebration on Saturday, 5 April 2025 at Paaltjies (Brakwater Recreational Area).

This warm-up event promises a nostalgic and community-centered experience, combining traditional games with a spirited Vetkoek and Potjiekos Cook-Off. Locals are invited to relive the excitement of childhood with beloved Namibian games like Amagoes, Blikkies, Game of Throws, and Volmaak. The day also brings a culinary showdown, where participants will compete for the title of Windhoek’s best traditional cooks.

Gates open at 07:00 AM, and entry is completely free, making this a perfect opportunity for families and friends to come together for a day of cultural fun and entertainment. To ensure accessibility for all, free transport will be provided from Monte Christo Service Station to Paaltjies and back.

This event forms part of the broader celebrations leading up to the /Ae //Gams Festival, which is set to take place on 25 and 26 April 2025. The festival celebrates Windhoek’s cultural diversity and aims to promote local heritage, creativity, and community pride through a variety of performances, exhibitions, and cultural showcases.
