Windhoek Fire Brigade Hosts Blaze Buster Quiz to Promote Fire Safety. The Windhoek Fire Brigade Services successfully hosted the Blaze Buster Quiz on 28 March at the City of Windhoek Council Chambers, bringing together learners from 22 secondary schools to test their knowledge on fire safety and prevention. The event was proudly sponsored by Vivo Energy.
The competition highlighted the importance of fire safety awareness among young people, combining education with fun and interactive learning. Learners demonstrated their understanding of fire prevention measures, emergency responses, and the role of safety equipment in protecting lives and property.
Windhoek Technical High School emerged as the overall winner, walking away with a grand prize of N$5,000. In addition, individual learners received cash prizes:1st Place: Windhoek Technical High School — N$1,000 per learner2nd Place: Chairman Mao Zedon High School — N$750 per learner3rd Place: A. Shipena Secondary School — N$500 per learner4th Place: Jan Jonker Afrikaner High School — N$250 per learnerTo recognize the role of teachers, the Fire Brigade gifted each participating teacher a battery-operated smoke detector. These devices provide early warnings by sensing smoke and sounding alarms, enabling quick evacuation and emergency response before fires spread.
Organizers emphasized that the quiz was not only about competition but also about instilling lifelong lessons in fire safety. By engaging learners in this way, the Fire Brigade aims to build a culture of awareness and preparedness among Namibia’s youth.
The event concluded with praise for all participants, reinforcing the message that fire safety is a shared responsibility and that knowledge is the first line of defense against potential hazards.
