Windhoek Closes Abraham Mashego Street for Road Upgrades. The City of Windhoek has temporarily closed a section of Abraham Mashego Street between Claudius Kondovanzu Road and Eneas Peter Nanyemba Road to allow for ongoing construction work.
The project, led by Namibia Construction (Pty) Ltd, aims to upgrade infrastructure and reduce traffic congestion along Eneas Peter Nanyemba Road. The construction is currently focused on the intersection of Eneas Peter Nanyemba Road and Abraham Mashego Street, with significant work taking place on the westbound lane of Peter Nanyemba Road.
Despite the closure, the City Infrastructure Department has assured residents that they will still have access to the affected area through an alternative route. Caesar Street and the Hereford Bypass have been designated as detour routes to facilitate smooth traffic flow.
The construction work is expected to continue until 31 July 2025, meaning the road closure will remain in effect for several months. Motorists and pedestrians have been urged to adhere to all traffic signs and follow the designated access restrictions to ensure safety around the construction zone.
The road upgrades are part of Windhoek’s broader efforts to improve urban mobility and address congestion in key areas. The city has been investing in various infrastructure projects to accommodate growing traffic demands and enhance road safety.
While temporary closures may cause inconvenience, authorities believe these improvements will benefit residents in the long run by providing better traffic flow and modernized roads. The City of Windhoek has advised the public to plan their routes accordingly and remain patient as work progresses.
